Our History

Mockingbird MicroSchool was founded as my wife and I were evaluating schools for our oldest, who had just turned 18 months at the time. She was so ready for social interaction and needed to be around her peers. Our main requirement was that child development be at the forefront of any school our kids would attend, but it was surprising to us how relatively uncommon that is. It was actually pretty rare to find a school that took early childhood education as seriously as we did, and those that did had a huge waiting list. Many of our available options felt like just a place for us to leave the kids while we were at work, not an intentional and purposeful learning environment. We must have toured over a dozen schools when we began the overwhelming journey that is searching for childcare in Austin. After navigating a sea of waiting lists, locations, attendance models, and educational philosophies, we still never felt like we had found “the one”.

Although we didn’t realize it at the time, a seed was planted: “What if we started our own school that created exactly what we wanted? And what if we could build a community of like minded families who wanted the same thing?”

Fast forward 5 years, a brand new set of twins, and a global pandemic later and we finally got there; ready to offer Austin the hyper-focused child care that we feel all children deserve.
